Sleeping Is Healthy

We spend a third of our life sleeping
The quality and the quantity of that sleep creates and maintain health

According to recent scientific studies, not getting enough sleep contributes to obesity, heart disease and type II diabetes. We’re likely to get more emotionally upset, when we have less sleep. Sleep is amongst the three pillars of health of Ayurveda.

During sleep the nervous system is cleansing itself and rebooting the brain. It’s giving a default setting there and cleaning all the debris out. When we don’t have enough sleep, we don’t have the opportunity to do this.

We can also look at the quality of sleep. Are you sleeping deeply? Are you able to get deep restful sleep and feel refreshed in the morning? If not, you are robbing from that bank of good health.

The third principle of these pillar of health is often referred to as sex and how we spend our vital energies. Through sexual activity we can deplete ourselves very rapidly but we can also deplete our cell by our activities that flows through the day. Does the flow of my day serve me? Does it keep me going? Do I feel energized throughout the day? Do I follow a time periods of activities with time periods of rest? To allow myself to replenish and reboot my energy before the next thing.

If you think about those times when you haven’t been feeling well, you don’t feel like going out and doing things. Even those goals you set for yourself seem unattainable when you are not feeling well. So by taking this steps early on to create that state of health that is going to propel you to reach those goals you have set. So by following principles of ayurveda you have the opportunity to reach your very own highest potential. By taking in food that generates health and builds healthy tissues. By getting adequate sleep and by knowing how to spend your vital energy during the day. When you achieve perfect health, an ultimate goal of ayurveda you will be able to reach your highest potential.
