Pitta Imbalance & Reproductive Health

If you are suffering from pitta doshic imbalance in the reproductive system, your cycle may be regular but hot and intense. You may find that you have more stress in your life not because you are doing too much but because of the goals or responsibilities.

We have to look first at reduction of stress. For Pitta to reduce stress, they need to include activities like exercise, time with nature, relaxation and meditation in their daily routines. The daily exercise for pitta dosha is best done in the cooler parts of the day. Pitta dosha wants to avoid exercise that is overly competitive or overly heating. This allows them to deal with moving these stress hormones without generating new stresses that they put on themselves for wanting to be the best.

For pitta dosha the time spent in nature is essential. Moving at the pace of nature is very important. It is critical  to recognize that there is no goal, there is only the progress, there is only the path that exist there. As they are spending time in nature they will observe the season change, they will see growth occur not as if there is some goal to be achieved but as the movement of life. Nature moves towards psychological goals during the springtime, when the plant increase growth and in the summer it increases the fruits, in the winter time or the fall it stores energy back into the body. So there is always a cycle. There is not an end point not a goal to be reached, so the time in nature is to be used to cool down the pitta and to get them to get broader focus and a broader perspective.

Relaxation is  very important for pitta dosha because they spend too much time in their mind working on their goals, working on their processes and products. Relaxation means to simply be, to not be working towards something but to be in this moment now.

Stress reduction for pitta often means a change in mental focus away from the goal and on to compassion: On to the self or relationship.

Pitta dosha also needs to regulate the digestive fire. The Agni is regulated by good food choices, cooling foods, that tend to be moist and nutrient dense foods are recommended because pitta dosha person has a stronger and sharp metabolism.

Pitta dosha must make sure that the food brings enough nutrition for the metabolism. The food should be nutrient dense and, not overly oily, fried or overly heated. The conscious dining for pitta again brings them into present moment focus.

Pitta has a tendency to disregard self-care and focus on the work that they are doing. They need to recognize the fact that how we eat is as important as what we eat. The time we take for self-care is as important as the time that we take for work.

For pitta dosha herbs like fennel, cumin, coriander, turmeric, fresh ginger and cardamom are all herbs that help regulate that digestive fire without disturbing pitta dosha.

Pitta doshas’ digestive fire is often strong, but may still form ‘ama’ in the system. Because when they make poor food choices or dine when they are stressed or distracted or go for poor food preparation methods; they can create a digestive fire that’s weak and they can create ‘ama’ in their system as well.

Three easy ways to resolve ‘ama’ – clean food, clean water and daily exercise. In this case, one must go back to eating easily digestible foods. Increasing the water intake will help in cooling down the rasa dhatu. Herbs like red clover, Echinacea, burdock  when added to water have dual benefit for pitta dosha, they are cooling to the systems and help in clearing the liver. Exercise will allow you to increase dhatu Agni and burn up the ‘ama’.

Pitta dosha with excessive heat in their lymphatic system must make sure that they take cooling fluids. They must avoid heating beverages or acidic beverages like coffee or alcohol. These heating substances are responsible for acidity in the body and end up generating more heat rather than less.

The effort should be made to cool the Rakta dhatu (blood) and the liver. Cooling herbs like dandelion, burdock, milk thistle or aloe Vera can be incorporated in tea. Herbs can also be taken in powder form, to help support the liver. It’s only when you ignore the basic rules of maintaining good health – proper diet, sleep and exercise that you’d need the aid of these herbs as supplements.

When Pitta is overheated, it tends to heat all the dhatus: rasa, rakta and the mamsa and eventually all the way down to overheating the shukra. Substances like almonds, milk and ghee can help rebuild shukra dhatu (these are all cooling substances). For women, Shatavari too has a cooling effect.

For pitta dosha the whole idea is to watch out for ways to cool down the body and the mind. Pitta dosha imbalance is created when they allow themselves to heat up, stay heated up and, do not find time to recover from the heat. Pitta dosha needs to maintain balance all month long.
