Quick, easy tips to fight skin diseases Ayurvedically

According to Ayurveda Skin diseases may manifest when a person indulges in one or more of the below listed reasons:

  1. Intake of incompatible food combinations such as milk with fish.
  2. Consumption of excessive amounts of drinks which are unctuous and heavy to digest.
  3. Suppression of the urge to vomit or other natural urges
  4. Physical exercise or wandering in excessive heat after eating a heavy meal
  5. Haphazard intake of foods with hot and cold properties
  6. Use of cold water immediately after exposure to scorching sun heat, exertion or exposure to frightening situations
  7. Intake of excess food, uncooked food and eating before the complete digestion of previous meal.
  8. Improper administration of Ayurvedic detox therapies,
  9. Excessive intake of foods made by freshly harvested grains, curd, fish, salt and sour substances
  10. Excessive intake of black gram, radish, pastry, sesame seeds and jaggery.
  11. Performance of sexual act while suffering with indigestion
  12. Sleeping during day time and
  13. Insulting people and engaging in sinful acts

How Skin Diseases happen, according to Ayurveda

The above factors may vitiate all the three doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These unbalanced doshas then affect the skin, blood, muscle tissue and lymph or plasma part of the blood tissue and manifest as discoloration, lesions and itching etc.

According to Ayurveda there are 18 types of Skin diseases, called “Kushtas”.The skin diseases, are never caused by the vitiation of only one of the above mentioned pathogenic dosha, i.e all of them are necessarily involved in the causation of the disease. One of the 18 type of Skin diseases is Kapala type of Kustha.It is caused predominantly due to an increase in the Vata Dosha. It is characterized by the following:

Kapala refers to broken pieces of earthen pot.

Kapala type of Kustha is characterized by:

  1. Skin lesions look like black and reddish pieces – Kapala (broken pieces of earthen pot)
  2. Skin lesions are dry and rough
  3. may associated with excessive pain

How to manage Skin Diseases

Diet

Prefer:

  • Light and wholesome foods
  • Bitter, leafy vegetables that help cleanse the blood and the skin.
  • Food preparations and medicated ghee prepared by boiling with Triphala and Neem.
  • Old (not freshly harvested) cereals.
  • Meat of animals inhabiting arid land.
  • Preparations of Mudga (green gram) mixed with Patola – pointed gourd is good to have.

Avoid:

Intake of heavy and sour food, milk, curd, meat of animals inhabiting marshy land, fish, Guda (Jaggery) and Tila.

Therapies

Skin diseases dominated by Vata are administered the medicated  enema(a type of Ayurvedic Detox). Likewise, there are many other Ayurvedic therapies like cleaning, scraping, steaming and incising. One may talk to an Ayurveda health practitioner about it.

Herbs

  • Triphala and Neem help cleanse blood,hence are good for skin diseases.
  • Radiant Skin may be helpful in cleaning blood and skin.
  • Castor oil may be taken to help detox.
  • Khadirarishtam is one of the best herbal preparation for skin diseases according to ayurveda.
