15 Immunity-Building Hacks To Kick Off Fall Wellness

The seven days at the end and commencement of a season is known as Rithu sandhi. During this period of time, the daily regimen of the preceding season should be discontinued gradually. That of the succeeding season should be gradually adopted. A sudden discontinuance or sudden adoption gives rise to diseases caused by non-habituation (Asatmya).

Rithu sandhi is a sensitive time.

As we enter the season of Fall, follow these 15 Ayurvedic tips to ease stress, minimize sickness and build strong immunity.

Additionally, use Triphala (2 tablets or 1 tsp Triphala powder) with lukewarm water at bedtime. Triphala is the traditional Ayurvedic digestive herb which  keeps your digestion strong and elimination regular. Use a natural detoxifier like a mixture of Amla, Neem and Turmeric powder to make your skin radiant. Take this internally (1 teaspoon) with water daily.

1. The transition between seasons is known as Rithu Sandhi. At this time the body is sensitive to the changing temperature.
2. The transition between seasons is a good time to do a gentle cleanse.
3. When the weather fluctuates between warm and cool, dress appropriately to maintain immunity.
4. Be mindful of your food choices when the weather fluctuates.
5. Practice stabilizing yoga asanas during the transition between seasons.
6. Add ghee to warming soups and stews. Ghee is beneficial for Vata, Pitta and Kapha dosha.
7. Sleep well during Rithu Sandhi, the transition between seasons.
8. The approaching cool months mark the start of Vata season. Warmth and stability are needed.
9. Build immunity with sesame oil self-massage. 20 minutes, 3 times a week.
10. Moving into Fall, include warm soups and stews like kitchari in your diet. Easy-to-digest foods give strength and ease.
11. Strong digestion builds a strong body. As you move into Fall, stay away from iced cold beverages. They inhibit digestion.
12. Seasonal changes bring feelings of anxiety and unrest. Meditate daily to build a strong inner self.
13. For prevention and immunity, include Ayurvedic herbs such as guduchi, ashwagandha, holy basil, amla and ginger in your daily diet.
14. Avoid heavy meats, leftovers and processed or junk foods. They are especially difficult to digest during this time.
