How Ayurveda Helped Me Heal My Broken Heart

It’s not easy to get over a broken heart. After my breakup, I was devastated, and a cloud of stress loomed over me for a long time. I tried various things to keep my sanity intact and not succumb to depression. It was only then that I discovered the Ayurvedic lifestyle.

To keep myself occupied, I began rising early, eating on time, and exercising all practices of good health. Once I started concentrating on following good habits, I fell back on track. I realized that crying over something that was gone was pointless. Instead, channeling my energy into something that could benefit me in the long term seemed like the right way to go.

I incorporated some habits into my everyday life, and before I knew it, I started feeling good about myself. And in no time, I recovered from the heartbreak. Combining heartbreak with bad habits is something that I almost did, like most people.

Drinking, overeating, late nights, lack of rest – these habits cause harm to the body and mind. I knew instantly that dwelling in bad habits was not going to help me in any way. No amount of medicine or alcohol could bring me out of that state of mind. The one thing that works better than medicine and is probably cheaper is a healthy lifestyle. With Ayurveda, I made the right choices for my body and mind. And I could see a positive impact. Here’s how.

Practice Mindful Eating

The first thing we usually resort to after heartbreak is binge eating or midnight snacking over old pictures or messages. I was no exception. I turned to chocolate and ice cream to ease my pain. But when I switched to mindful eating, I began to realize how sacred food was.

Ayurveda advises that food should only be eaten with a healthy intention. Midnight snacking or giving in to cravings do no good for the body and hence, are of no value. With mindful eating, I was more aware of every morsel going into my mouth and honored it. Why? Because this way of savoring and paying attention to every bit of it helps your body absorb more nutrients.

The Glory Of Rising Early

Ayurveda is one of the oldest health practices in the world and it has the power to dictate our lives positively. Rising early is one of the strongest advises from Ayurvedic practitioners. I stopped sleeping in late and started waking up early, and it made all the difference. When I slept in late, I got very little rest, and my day went by in a mostly dull state. However, waking up early helped me a lot. It was the perfect time for meditating and breathing exercises, which instantly calmed and soothed my body and mind. When you match your routine with the sun, it can balance your lifestyle. Once I had a healthy sleep cycle, my body started to function better.

Meditation – A Path To Recovery

Certain general health guidelines advocated by Ayurveda can bring more happiness by making the heart more open emotionally. Meditation can improve the coordination between the mind and emotions and promotes emotional well-being. There was no reason for me to look for peace and calm outside as I found it within myself.

With meditation, I could balance my mind and eventually forget the pain that the heartbreak caused. Mental health is as important as physical health. And only when you are breathing right can you think right. Gradually, I was able to avoid any stress and restore emotional balance.

Follow A Morning Routine

I began waking up early for a short brisk walk or a jog, which washed away all the sorrows that came from the day before. I would return feeling fresh after the light cardio workout. Ayurveda looks deeply into an individual’s physiology on the basis of emotional health or imbalance. It states that the key to healing one’s heart is through exercise. Exercise is a great way to recover from heartbreak, and it certainly healed mine.

Get An Adequate Amount Of Rest

The end of my relationship brought along a wave of stress and related emotions into my life. What I needed was rest. Ayurveda states that you will never be at complete peace without the necessary amount of rest. Now that I was rising early and eating well, I was automatically getting to bed sooner. I didn’t need to spend money on expensive medications or therapies to sleep better. All I needed was plenty of rest to heal my broken heart.

Heartbreak is not something easy to get over. It caused an imbalance in my life and made it painfully difficult to find a way through the grief. By incorporating Ayurvedic practices into my life, I opted for a healthier way to recover. Now, there is no longer any sadness in my heart. I am more open to healthier relationships and more happiness. If you have gone through something painful as I have, try following the Ayurvedic way of life to heal yourself.
