Ah, the holidays are here! Yay, this means yummy food and lovely get togethers with people we haven’t seen for a while! It means sharing presents and sharing love. And it also means potential holiday bloating.
Here’s three of my favorite ways to handle holiday bloating, so your digestion can happen with ease.
1. Go for a Stroll After You Eat
Exercise is very important at this time of year so take time to go for a nice invigorating walk after supper. It doesn’t need to be a long walk. Fifteen or twenty minutes will go a long way to help you feel lighter, burn calories and inspire your digestive system to stay active.
2. Polish the Diamond
The yogasana – Vajrasana – the diamond pose is one of my absolute favorite ways to combat bloating, indigestion and constipation. Sitting in this pose for ten to fifteen minutes after a meal does wonders for digestion. It is also great for stretching, strengthening and improving the flexibility of the hip, knees and ankle joints!
3. Spice it Up
There are many very helpful ways to use spices to aid in easing bloating, indigestion and low energy. Below is a little recipe I keep on hand that can be added to boiling water to make chai, sprinkled on your morning oatmeal or munched on after meals.
4 cloves
1 stick of cinnamon
1 tsp of fennel seed
4 cardamon pods
1/4 tsp of dry ginger
Grind the ingredients together and keep the powder in a glass jar. You can double or triple this recipe to keep more on hand but it truly is better the fresher it is.
I cannot do this pose due to an artificial knee – (and also I am heavy) if I sit close to this using a chair, pulling my legs as up and back as far I can, will that help?
